Harvest Supermoon in Pisces

The moon is presently at its closest point to Earth, which is why it’s looking so big on the horizon. That’s what we call a ‘Supermoon’. The September full moon is also the Harvest Moon, because, at summer’s end, by its brilliant light, the farms can work late into the night gathering the harvest.
Having morning tea in the garden today, me and my partner discussing the ‘Supermoon’ as we saw it last night.
My partner: ‘The moon was really big last night’.
Me: ‘The moon is always really big. It’s just closer at present. It doesn’t get bigger and smaller!’
This moon is in the sign of Pisces, and that means it’s an emotional time. Pisces is one of the most sensitive signs in the zodiac, and during this period of the massive closeness of the Harvest moon, there’s a tendency to feel a bit overwhelmed emotionally and feel rather passive. But if it’s not the ideal time for taking positive action, it’s a really good time for spiritual reflection and for engaging in some creative thinking for the future.
With the autumn equinox only days away, it’s time to be thinking of storing away the fruits of the summer and preparing for the longer nights of winter. Not only literally, as the physical harvest is gathered and stored. Time also to say thanks for whatever we’ve enjoyed this summer, as we start thinking of spending a bit more time indoors, meditating by the fireside. Autumn is a time to give thanks for the gifts of the harvest, and for the wonderful gift of life itself.
The Cosmic Tango: Sun in Cancer, Moon in Sagittarius at the Summer Solstice
Hello, celestial stargazers and astrology aficionados! 🌟✨
As the summer solstice graces us with its longest day and shortest night, we find ourselves basking in the radiant energy of the Sun in Cancer. This isn’t just any Sun in Cancer moment, though. Oh no, it’s a celestial jamboree with Venus and Mercury joining the solar party, all cozied up in the 10th house. And to add a sprinkle of cosmic spice, the Moon is grooving in Sagittarius, opposition the Sun, Venus, and Mercury. What a time to be alive!
The Big Picture: Sun in Cancer, 10th House
With the Sun beaming in Cancer, we’re all about home, family, and nurturing vibes. But wait—what’s this? The Sun is chilling in the 10th house, the realm of career, ambition, and public life. This mix creates a delightful (and sometimes bewildering) blend of wanting to be a homebody while simultaneously craving recognition and success in the world. Opposing the cozy Cancer cluster, the Moon in Sagittarius adds a dynamic tension—a tug-of-war between our need for security and our desire for freedom and adventure.
This opposition is like trying to decide between staying in for a Netflix binge with a homemade meal (Cancer) or spontaneously hitting the road for an impromptu weekend getaway (Sagittarius). Spoiler alert: you might end up doing a bit of both!
Special Spotlight: Cancer Suns and Ascendants

Monday is Moonday!
Astrologically, the moon represents parts of ourselves, deep feelings and instincts, that are not so easy to describe. It relates especially to both our personal subconscious, and also points the way to the inner link to our spiritual nature.
The moon rules the sign of Cancer, that plucky, tenacious little crab that’s so attached to its home that it carries it along with it, and will do its best to defend it against all comers! It rules all things to do with our homes and what happens within them. As the home is, or should be, the special place in which we, and those we love, are nurtured and cared for, so the moon shows the ways in which these things occur in our lives. It shows the maternal, nurturing, caring, affectionate aspects of our natures, and the ways in which we experience those things ourselves, how they have been offered to us, and how we offer them to others.
Nurture is also to do with helping growth to occur, and so the Moon has a special relationship to the ways in which we become more the people we want and ought to be; it’s a key to the achievement of our destinies.
Here's a pic of 'The Moon' card, from my Waite-Colman Smith deck.

There’s a lot of symbolism in this card . The little crayfish crawling out of the water (I used to think it was a lobster, but its not) is symbolic of the way in which life first came out of the water of the oceans and established itself on dry land. It’s setting out on a trail that leads up towards the distant mountains, disappearing across the horizon. Meanwhile, it will pass between the two rather cute little animals, which are actually a dog, symbolizing civilized nature, and a wolf, symbolizing nature untamed. And then on, between the two towers, symbolic again of the civilizing influence of humanity on the natural world, of the way in which human beings have sought to organize and control things.
I always think that the towers are reminders of how we think we can force the physical world to accept our way of being as the right one, that it has to conform to our standards. But the little crayfish is actually not stopping there. S/he is carrying right on, following the pathway on and up over the summits of the mountains to what lies beyond present sight. Following his/her dreams. While above it all, the moon looks down, dropping slivers of gold on the scene below. (They’re actually golden ‘Yods’, which are letters of the Hebrew alphabet, and part of their meaning signifies the presence of divine spirit in all things).
So here in this card we have a whole lot of symbolism showing the way in which life grows and moves forward towards new things, building on what has gone before, but moving on towards its dreams. And, maybe unseen to the little crayfish, or to us, the power of the divine spirit is always showering its energies down onto us.
Now that’s an interesting guide to creating newness in our lives, don’t you think? Why don’t we see what we can do with that, my little crayfish?!

For today, let’s you and me simply accept ourselves as these little crayfish, or crabs, beginning the journey. A journey that will take us to greater understanding of those deep feelings and instincts that help to govern our lives and the ways we live them. A journey that may help us move towards greater enrichment in our lives and homes, and in the ways we relate to both ourselves and others. And which may help us to access the inner link that joins us to the spiritual nature that is truly ourselves.
Let’s begin that journey today. And join me again tomorrow, to continue along our way of exploration and adventure, towards becoming more of ourselves.
Tuesday is Tiu's Day
Tuesday is Tiu's Day

Tiu or Tyr was a god of the sky and warfare in old Germanic mythology, and also a god of justice. He was also known as the one-handed god, having had his right bitten off by the monstrous Fenris wolf. Prophesy told that Fenris would one day kill Odin, king of the gods. Tiu placed one hand in the wolf’s mouth, in promise that the gods meant no harm to him. But when they bound the demon with a magic chain, Tiu lost his hand. After the Romans left Britain, the Anglo-Saxons named Tuesday after Tiu.

In magic and divination, the Tiwaz rune is named after Tiu. Its shape like an arrow or spear seems appropriate for a war god, although it can also be seen as representing the lightning appropriate to a god of the skies, and also a rod of justice. It symbolises balance and justice, also honour and courage; and can also signify sacrifice, as Tiu willingly sacrificed his hand. So it can show how our own growth needs us to be prepared to change, to sacrifice something of our old selves and what has been, in order to make the space for the new to enter our lives.
As a tarot card, Justice is the one which, in many ways, most closely resembles Tiu. In one hand is the sword, showing the strength to do what is right, and to stand up for yourself and others. In the other, the balance of truth, showing that we need to think and weigh our thoughts and actions, and not swing the sword wildly at random. The figure sits upon a throne, showing the power of someone who rules.

So the card shows how we have the power within ourselves to rule our thoughts and actions. How we can weigh them in the balance of our judgement to find what is right for us, and those we care for. And then use the strength signified by the sword of justice, courage and honour, to carry them forward into our daily lives. Not, of course a real sword! The sword is the strength of our own minds.
Would you or I put our hands into the mouth of a savage wolf, risk it being bitten off, in order to potentially help, or save, those we care for? Would we do it for ourselves? Not that I suggest you go putting your hand in real life into a wolf’s, or even a dog’s, mouth! We’re speaking mythologically here, after all. But so often, we’d do so much more for others than we’d ever do for ourselves. So often, we show so much more love and care for others, than we ever do for ourselves. Perhaps it would be good if today we tried to love ourselves a little bit more. Maybe even as much as we love the others in our lives we care about.
Today, on Tiu’s day, look about you for that old Fenris wolf. He’s hard to control, and he may well seek to bite your hand. He comes today, not covered in a wolf’s pelt and with powerful jaws; he comes instead as the things that scare you, deep inside. Maybe another person or situation; or maybe your own inner voices, your secret demons. And he may bite you! But be aware, your inner self sits, as the Justice card, as Tiu, on a golden throne. You hold the scales of justice, in which to weigh what you believe to be right and fair. And you hold aloft the sword of power, which aids you to put aside your fears, and do what is right. For you, as for those others you love and care for.
Today is Tiusday. A day to begin honouring your own courage. To think on what is right for your life in this world. A day to begin loving yourself more. Have a wonderful and exciting day! And join me again tomorrow to continue on our journey.
Wednesday is Woden's Day
Wednesday is Woden's Day

Woden, or Odin, was the chief god of the Germanic and Norse peoples. He is particularly known for his wisdom, knowledge, healing, magic, poetry and victory in battle. In myth, he hung for nine nights on the world tree, Yggdrasil, in order to learn the magic of the Runes. Hence, he can also be seen as god of the sacrifice that needs be made to learn and grow in knowledge and wisdom.
In the tarot, I can think of several cards that Can represent the many powers of Woden. As chief of the gods, he is the Emperor. As Magician, he is that card. But for today, I think I’m going to select the Hanged Man as his major card. Because that is also a card of the sacrifice we need to make in order to take our lives forward in new and better ways.

In the card, the figure – and please remember that all tarot cards can be seen as of indeterminate gender. Just because it’s called ‘The Hanged Man’ doesn’t mean we have to regard it as essentially male. Deity in any case is usually genderless. So the card can also equally be regarded as a Hanged Woman!
But as you may see, not hanged by the neck, and not hanged by anyone but themselves. This is a card which represents our own choice to turn ourselves around and look at things from a different direction, to see things in a new and different way. As the saying goes, ‘If you keep doing the same things, you’ll get the same results’. So similarly this card says, ‘If you keep looking at things in the same way, you’ll see the same things’. Only if you sometimes stand yourself on your head – and who knows, although I’m not advocating you do a yoga-type headstand, maybe that could help! But at least, today, this Wednesday, this Woden’s Day, it’s a day to make some sacrifice of your time and effort to look at life, at your situations, your hopes and desires and fears, and try to see them from a different perspective. Maybe sit down and give yourself some quiet time to meditate and think, and make some notes, about the things that concern you. To make some plans. To think of your ways forward. But in doing so, be creative. Don’t think as you’ve always thunk (there, a bit of creativity with a word!), but try thinking and seeing things from a different perspective.
How would your partner, parent, child, best friend, someone you met recently in the supermarket, view this? Would they see it similarly or differently? And might their view offer some fresh insight for you?
And don’t be shy of using Woden’s rune magic too! Or whatever might be your own kind of magic. Tarot or oracle cards, the I-ching, your daily horoscope, the shape of the tea leaves in your cuppa! Who crosses your path today, what song do you hear, what words spring out at you from a notice or on the tv or computer screen? Today, things do not happen by accident. What messages are you seeing, hearing, picking up, in whatever ways?

Today is Woden’s Day. A day for looking at your life in a new way, and finding creative ways to move forward. A day for experiencing the magic that is about you. And also touching the magic within.
Come back tomorrow to continue our journey in growing into our new lives.
Thursday is Thor's Day
Thursday is Thor's Day

I see that, as I write, the new Marvel film, ‘Thor – Love and Thunder’ is out – and I shall definitely be going to see that! Chris Hemsworth is great; I see his brother Luke is also there, and the female characters played by Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and Jaimie Alexander all look promising.
However, Thursday is not named after the film! But after the Norse god, admittedly kind of portrayed in the films, Thor; god of lightning, thunder, storms, strength and protection, amongst others. He wields his magic hammer in battle, and rides to war in a chariot drawn by two goats. Many of the Norse tales about Thor are rather brutal, but in many ways he is a god who protects those he cares for.
To me, the most obvious choice of tarot card to represent Thor’s energies is The Chariot. In most decks, the chariot in which the figure stands is drawn by horses or Sphinxes, and the figure tends to carry a sword rather than a hammer. The Norse tarot and Viking oracle cards tend to be best for the more original artwork. But here, I’m using a more traditional type of design.

So today, it’s a day for you to be thinking about protection, and standing up for what is right. Those are by no means the only interpretations of this card; but they’re the ones I want to focus on today.
Protection – for yourself and those you care about. And standing up for the rights of yourself and those who need your aid. Not by wielding a magic hammer, and not by leaping into a chariot – although I have been known to refer to my car as the ‘Chariot of the Winds’! And there used to be that song by Trini Lopez about ‘If I had a hammer’. But we’re not talking here about that kind of thing. The protection and standing up for what is right is about how you value yourself and others, and how you speak up for all of them.
We may have someone to whom we can turn when we feel things are getting too much for us, or we may not. But we always have ourselves. And the person who knows you best, and can really appreciate your feelings, your hopes, fears and worries, is you.
Protecting yourself and standing up for right takes courage. It means you have to be prepared to actually stand up – even if that’s inside your own head and heart, rather than physically on your feet – and do something, take some action, to put the problem right. That could be no more than accepting that you are your own worst critic, and always feeling you could have done more or done it better, or pushed yourself a bit harder. It could be that you accept that other people have a right to their point of view, but so do you, and you don’t have to take what anyone else says to heart and feel belittled by it. It could be that you accept that you have as much right to be treated decently and with respect as anyone else. It may mean that you recognise that you have a right to be loved, and to have love shown to you, as well as giving it. Maybe it means that you start refusing to let anyone else blame you for things that aren’t your fault. Like the song says, ‘Don’t put the blame on me’. And of course, it also means you may need to consider the ways in which you think and treat others. It’s a two-way process. If we don’t take care of ourselves, how we can take care of others? And if we treat others without decency and respect, how can we expect them to treat us any differently? If we aren’t loving, how can we be loved?
So, today is a day for some deep thinking about how we see the world about us, how we regard ourselves and others, whether we protect and stand up for ourselves and others in the ways that best serve us all. That could be work, not just for today, but for many days to come. And all of it, all that work, will pay dividends in the way in which our life grows and begins to blossom.
As John Donne, said so many years ago: (I paraphrase)
‘No-one is an island, entire of itself;
Each is a piece of the continent, a part of the main….
Anyone’s death dimishes me,
Because I am involved in human kind.
And therefore, send not to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee’.

Much love to you all, and I hope you’ll be here again tomorrow to continue our journey into an ever more meaningful life and love. Oh, and if you're popping off to see 'Thor - Love and Thunder', like me - I hope you enjoy it. And maybe - just a little - think about what we've talked about here! See you tomorrow!
Friday is Freya's Day
Friday is Freya's Day

Or, maybe, since I'm still in Wales, I should be using the Welsh name for Friday - Dydd Gwener!
Freya is the Norse goddess of love, fertility, beauty and fine things; she’s kind of the ‘party girl’ of the Vanir, the chief family of the Norse gods. She has a similar place in the Norse pantheon of gods as does Venus or Aphrodite among the Roman or Greek gods. Her brother, Frey is also a god of the good life. Interestingly, it seems likely that they are both just Odin and his wife, Frijja, by other names.
Freya is also the goddess who first taught the gods magic! So she’s not a girl to be messed with! And through her magical abilities, and her love of all that is good in life, she is the goddess to go to if we’re looking to improve our health, wealth or prosperity. So, a goddess with whom it’s quite useful to be on good terms!
In the tarot, I can again see several cards which relate to Freya. The Lovers would be her, in her role alongside of Odin, as father and mother of the gods. The Empress could well be her, in her role as bringer of fertility and fruitfulness, of wealth and prosperity. But I’m going to choose The Star as being the primary card for her on this Friday.

You see her here, kneeling quietly, between earth, water and sky, surrounded by stars. When do we ever do that? When this card comes up in a reading, I know that it’s a call to remind the person of the connection to the god or goddess within, with whom it’s so easy to lose touch. The god or goddess within, who is the truth of love, beauty, wellness in all its aspects, in our lives, and of those about us.
TGIF! Thank the god’s it’s Freya’s Day! Not always so true for many of us, who often work shifts and all days of the week. But at least on some day of the week, hopefully, you get some time off?! (Again, not always true. Even if you’re not at your paid employment, shopping still needs to be got, the housework done, kids washed and looked after, dogs walked, etc., etc., etc!) But maybe on at least one day of the week, you can get a little time to yourself. Come on, in the bible, even God got a day off after creating ‘the heavens and the earth, and all the hosts of them’.
And we do need some time to ourselves. I’m on holiday in Wales as I write, and it’s so lovely. I walk on the wet grass barefoot and feel the spirits of the earth beneath me. I hear the sounds of the sylphs in the breezes, feel the warmth of the spirits of fire in the sunlight, watch spirits of the waters frolic in the lakes and streams. I can sit for hours just doing nothing, listening to the sheep bleating in the fields and the birds singing in the trees about me. I am so relaxed.
We need that. Time to be quiet, to relax. To place ourselves in positions where we can feel the rhythms of the natural world about us, and the rhythms of the spirit reawakening within us. The we can do the inner, spiritual work which is our real and primary purpose here in this life. Yes, we are here for this lifetime on the material plane and we have to do the physical things that enable us to get the money to buy our food, pay our rent, etc. We have to do all of the normal, everyday things of normal, everyday life. But that’s not really why we’re here. We are eternal, spiritual beings who are here to learn, to grow, to develop our spiritual natures in this physical realm. And we need some quiet time to be still, reflect, meditate, feel our way into the depths of our inner, spiritual being, in order to accomplish that most effectively.
And then we can carry that awareness of inner spirituality, of our real connection with the fountainhead of all being, into the daily, physical world in which we spend most of our waking hours. We can be a spiritual presence of love, health, well-being, and all good, in our dealings with all whom we meet. We can be the beings we truly are in the world of spirit, and yet still be walking, talking and working here, in the everyday world.
There’s a Buddhist saying, attributed to one of the enlightened ones of that philosophy. It goes:
‘Before enlightenment, draw water, hew wood;
After enlightenment, draw water, hew wood’.
So no visible change there - or is there?
And again, somewhat similarly, one day a young Buddhist monk asked what he should do to achieve enlightenment. The master said:
‘Have you eaten your food?’
‘Yes’, the young monk replied.
‘Then wash your bowl’, the master told him.
And that is all.

Achieving enlightenment, contacting your inner spiritual essence, doesn’t make the entire world change. The world remains as it is, as it has always been. What changes is you, becoming the person, the being, you were always meant to be. The person you have always been but didn’t know it. That’s what happens. When you find time to be alone with yourself, to find your way into the reality of your inner self. And that is part of the magic of Freya, part of the magic of The Star.
So that’s the work – if you can call it work – for you today. Or when you can manage it. When you have some time for yourself. Will you find that time today? If not, then when? When will you have time to be alone with the god or goddess that is you?
I hope to see you gain tomorrow. Come walk with me in the Garden in the cool of the evening. And let’s see what more we can do to grow into our true selves, and create the life that is truly ours.

Saturday is Saturn's Day
Saturday is Saturn's Day

So, we’ve left behind the days named for the Germanic/Norse gods (and goddesses), and today we’re with a day that’s named after the Roman god Saturn. He was regarded as a god of time, and of the endings of things, and of their new growth and renewal. He was also a god with power over growing things, harvests, and the wealth that was generated by these in a largely agricultural society, and as a result he was often shown – as in the picture – holding a sort of bendy knife, or reaping hook. He was the father of the later gods – Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Ceres, Juno and Vesta, and during his reign the earth was supposed in myth to have existed in a golden age.
The planet Saturn is astrologically the ruler of the sign of Capricorn. As a planet, it’s sometimes considered unlucky, but in reality it’s the planet that governs how we spend our time here on earth, learning and growing, harvesting and achieving. Wealth comes in many forms!
The tarot card I’ve chosen to represent Saturn is the Hierophant. It’s a card that represents spiritual power and energy that is intensely active in the material world.

Here, the figure on the card is, basically, a representation of the Pope, sitting on his throne, blessing the figures before him. But the meaning of the Hierophant goes back long before there was a pope, to ancient Greece, where the hierophant was the chief priest of the secret spiritual ceremonies of the Eleusinian Mysteries. These were intended to give initiates an insight into the underlying spiritual realities of life, and to reveal that death was merely the passage to a new state of being. The hierophant was the spiritual guide who helped reveal the secrets to initiates.
The Hierophant is a card about spiritual guidance and counsel. It’s a card which tells you to look for those who can be of help to you in your progress in life, to be ready to talk and listen and discuss with those who can help and perhaps mentor you. And it is also, and probably more importantly in our present journey into the depths of our own selves, a card asking us to look inwards, to the guidance which is within our own selves.
A major goal of magic is to make contact with our inner, spiritual guide, often called the ‘Holy Guardian Angel’. Or HGA for short. Making that contact can be quite an involved process. Or it can be quite short. We’re taking the shorter way here.
You are not a human being. Now, that’s a piece of news! In reality, you are an eternal spiritual being, who have chosen to become manifest in this physical world as a human being, for a purpose. I don’t know what that purpose is; and maybe you don’t either. Because the process of descent from our true, spiritual home to this world is so traumatising that we tend to forget why we came! It’s like when you go into another room for some reason, and then find yourself thinking, ‘Why did I come in here?’
And the eternal spiritual part of yourself is the part which is often called the Holy Guardian Angel. Your higher self, your guardian angel. In the tarot card, that is the figure seated on the throne, blessing and speaking with the figures kneeling before it. But curiously, those figures are also part of the Hierophant too! You are both the figure on the throne, the HGA which seeks to teach and bless you; and you are also one of the figures kneeling there, kind of lost in the physical world, no longer realising that you are there, seeking to teach and bless the physical part of yourself!
So today, our work is to meditate on the Hierophant, and begin making the link with our HGA that will enable us to realise our true nature as spiritual beings, and to begin to remember and practise our true purpose, the purpose for which we came into the world.
Tomorrow is the final day of our week of growth with the tarot and gods. Although it isn’t by any means the end of the process. Come again to join me for this final day, and see how far we’ve come along the way, and how to continue growing more and more into our true spiritual selves.

Sunday is the Day of the Sun.
Sunday is the Day of the Sun.

And what tarot card could I possibly choose for today, other than The Sun?! ‘Lord of the Fire of the World’, is its less well-known title. And how appropriate to be writing about the sun today. I got back from my break away in Wales, where it was just pleasantly cool, last night. Today the sun is shining down from a cloudless blue sky and it’s baking hot!
The sun makes all life possible here on earth. Without its warmth and light, this blue and green planet would be nothing but a lump of dark, frozen rock and ice. By its warmth and light, we and all other creatures with whom we share our world, and who have ever inhabited it, are enabled to live.

The tarot card signifies good health and well being, happiness, educational and career success, just about everything that’s good.
The figures in this particular version of the card – as with all tarot cards, there are variations - are standing just this side of a low wall and are stepping inside a circle in the grass. (The grass is looking very grey in this pic – it should be green!) The wall signifies separation between spiritual and physical worlds. Does it show that they are still separated from the spiritual here, and that by stepping into the fairy circle in the grass they will find their way back? Or have they just hopped over from the physical side, and are now entering fully into the spiritual? I know my thoughts at the end of this week; what are yours? And above, the sun is showering them with its golden blessings.
Whenever this card turns up in a reading, it’s almost as if the universe is trying to shout at you – ‘Hey, it’s all going to be just fine!’ And in a way, that’s what I want to say to you today, as we come to the end of our week of growth through the days and gods and tarot. It’s all going to be ok. You may want to think on those thoughts as you gaze at today’s card.
I don’t mean that you or I, after this week of meditations, are now super beings who can achieve anything we want and will never know another moment of doubt or pain. That’s not the way life on the material plane is. Bills must be paid, sickness happens, love affairs end, we have to get up at seven on rainy mornings and go to work, and everything is just a little bit broken at times. But what has happened over the past days, is some personal inner spiritual growth, for you and for me. And that makes a difference.
You are not as you were last Monday when you began reading these little meditations – and hopefully practising them. And neither am I. We have both learned and grown and changed as a result. And the learning, growing and changing has had, and will continue to have, positive effects in the way we live and experience our lives. The way we see the new day each morning. The way we see ourselves during the day. The way we see others with whom we come into contact. The way in which we regard and experience the world in which we live. The way we feel about all of these, and the way in which we act as a result.
These views, thoughts, feelings, actions, are the way in which you and I live our lives. And now we are living our lives in new and more positive ways, having learned something more about who we really are, and what our true purpose may be here on this material earth. We are spiritual beings who live forever in the world from which we come, our real home; and we have incarnated here on earth for a purpose. And our lives, once we have realised this, are so very worthwhile.
I can’t really say more than that. There’s no reason you shouldn’t go back over these meditations again, in this coming week, or in weeks to come. It’ll do no harm, in fact can do only good. I am grateful to you for accompanying me on this journey, and I hope you have enjoyed it and benefitted from it as much as I have. Do message me if you like, to let me know how you’ve felt, to offer comments or suggestions, or if you’d like to discuss anything further. Meanwhile, all my very best to you; and I wish you much love and happiness in all areas of your life, you wonderful being.
